Chennai: Cultural ambassadors, The Mylapore Trio – siblings Amarnath, Surendranath and Aparna – were honoured with the ĀNallor ViruduĀ award for their contribution towards the development of Indian culture by Youth Association for Cultural Development (YACD), Gopalapuram, and Sri Krishna Sweets Sunday.
Former judge of the Madras High Court, Justice N V Balasubrahmaniam, presenting the award to the Trio, praised them for their work. He recalled seeing the Ashta Dikku Alankara Kolu, the first thematic Kolu set up by the Trio in 2009 at the Lord Kapaleeswarar Temple, where the function took place.
Sri Krishna Sweets managing director M Murali said what the Trio was doing in upholding tradition and culture and inculcating it in the next generation was the need of the hour. The award carried a citation, shawl and garland that decorated the Lord and Goddess Karpagambal.
On behalf of the Trio, Amarnath thanked the organisers for honour and dedicated the award to their foster parents Sumukhi and Rajasekharan and their grandmother Nagammal.
Ramanathan Krishnamurthy of YACD, who welcomed the gathering, praised the Trio for carrying out their cultural activities without looking for sponsorship.
