With very limited MTC bus services during peak hours, residents of Saligramam find it difficult to reach their workplace on time.
“Public transport is widely used by people for various reasons as it costs less, compared to driving one’s own vehicle. It also helps in reducing traffic congestion. However, the poor services of MTC buses affects commuters,” says Rajesh Sivakumar, a resident of Saligramam.
He says the buses scheduled between 12.20 pm and 1.10 pm are the ones that are mostly delayed. Among them, 17E route bus service ply only during working days, and not during the weekends.
“So, people in Saligramam suffer a lot. We have been requesting the authorities to provide proper bus service on weekends,” Rajesh says.
The number of buses available on the other routes are also less. “Between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm on working days, hardly three buses ply and so people find it difficult to return home,” he adds.
The residents request the MTC management to provide more bus facilities to Saligramam, AVM Colony, Virugambakkam and Kali Amman Kovil Street.
“Along with 17E, the M27 bus going from Vadapalani Police Station to CMBT can be re-directed through our area to benefit the large population residing there,” says Rajesh.
