Chennai: Actor and businessman ‘Power Star’ Srinivasan has lodged a complaint with the city police that his wife Julie was allegedly kidnapped by a gang in Ooty yesterday.

Srinivasan claimed that few lenders had kidnapped his wife. On receiving his complaint, a special team of city police headed by Inspector Rajkumar left for Ooty last night.

Only on Friday last, Julie had filed a complaint that Srinivasan was missing from 5 December. She also alleged that she got a phone call asking her to transfer a property to the abductors as ransom.

Later, the police got information that Srinivasan was in Ooty and that he was there to transfer a property to pay some debts. His wife after filing the complaint joined him.

In his complaint, Srinivasan alleged that on 3 December he had got a film offer through a public relations officer identified as Preethi. She had made an offer of Rs 10 lakh for a ten-day schedule. The duo met at a hotel in Koyambedu. However, when Srinivasan asked when the film producer would come he was asked to wait, he said.

Police said, it was a trap by his lenders Masoor Aalam and Sajjadh Wahab from Bengaluru. Srinivasan owed them nearly Rs 90 lakh.

Later, a man identified as Selvin and seven others came and asked Srinivasan for the money he owed to Aalam. Srinivasan said that he would sell his property in Ooty which was in Julie’s name and hand over the money. The gang brought him to his house in Anna Nagar and then drove with him to Ooty.

To solve the issue, the following day Julie went and signed few documents to transfer the property. However, things went awry at the Registar’s office when officials said that since Srinivasan had huge debts he cannot make the property transfer.

Even as Srinivasan was allowed to come back to the city, Julie was held back at a hotel in Ooty.
Srinivasan, who began his career as a medical practitioner, moved into finance, before starring in films.

While some sources in the police department claimed Julie was rescued and few persons were arrested, higher officials did not confirm the same.
