Ramalingam

Chennai: Days after a PMK worker was murdered in Kumbakonam, Tamilnadu, DMK president M K Stalin on Friday strongly condemned his killing.

Coming down heavily on this incident, Stalin in his tweets demanded the Tamilnadu government to secure punishment for the accused and to put an end to such violence in the future. “The AIADMK government should come forward to guard communal harmony that traditionally prevails in Tamil Nadu by taking stern action against the perpetrators, whichever religion they may belong to,” he said.

Five men – S Nijam Ali, Sarbudeen, Rizwan, Mohamed Azarudeen and Mohamed Raiyaz – who are suspected to be associated with an Islamic outfit, were arrested 7 February for allegedly killing Ramalingam, a PMK functionary and resident of Thirubuvanam.

The reason behind the killing was said to be because he questioned a group of men allegedly engaged in converting people to Islam.

PMK founder S Ramadoss had earlier sought a probe by a Special Investigation Team and a financial compensation to the family of the deceased from the central and state governments. Many political leaders, including BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan had condemned the killing.
