Chennai: Building libraries in schools is not possible now. Since students’ workload is high, it is enough if they study what is in their curriculum, said Tamilnadu Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan today.
Talking about State government’s initiatives for students from next academic year, Sengottaiyan said students studying in classes 8, 9 and 10 will be provided with free laptops by the government. “So far 15 lakh students studying in class 11 and 12 have been given laptops.”
The School Education Minister also said student admission in government schools has increased to 99 per cent from 93 per cent in the previous academic year. “Around 1.50 lakh additional students have joined government schools this year,” he said.
The government is also taking special steps to help students in government schools ace the NEET exams. This year 550 NEET exam centres have been added in Tamilnadu, he said.
Sengottaiyan said, “The students don’t have to travel outside our State for writing NEET exams. The government will provide special NEET coaching to 16,000 students this year. Out of this, the top 4000 students will be given a special 25-day coaching in different colleges in the State to prepare it.”
