Chennai: Leading parties of the State today pressed the Election Commission for conducting by-poll to 21 constituencies that currently are vacant in Tamilnadu along with Lok Sabha elections. This demand was made at an all-party meet held here.

Convened by the Chief Electoral Officer for the State, Satyabrata Sahoo, the meet was attended by 10 parties, including ruling AIADMK, Opposition DMK, Congress and DMDK.

Meanwhile, today too was a day of developments in Tamilnadu political space, in view of the fast approaching Parliamentary polls.

Chief Minister and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister and party coordinator O Panneerselvam are said to meet PMK founder S Ramadoss at his Thailapuram residence, near Tindivanam, as the latter is poised to host a grand feast for his new partners.

Cabinet Ministers and senior members of the ruling party will also participate in the feast that is touted to be the first of its kind between the two parties. The timings of the feast are subjected to change, sources said.

The bonhomie that is set to take place at the sprawling farm house will ease friction between two parties, as in the past they have always been at loggerheads, hitting out on each other whenever time comes.

The dinner will also be table to finalise the seven parliamentary constituencies to be allotted to the latter as part of the National Democratic Alliance.

Meanwhile, Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar today told reporters that several other parties will join hands with AIADMK for the upcoming elections. He also stated that Congress leader Thirunavukkarasar must explain his meet with DMDK chief Vijayakanth. Jayakumar expressed confidence that DMDK will join the ADMK-PMK-BJP alliance.

Meanwhile, Opposition DMK is also busy with talks as it invited VCK and MDMK today to the party headquarters to decide on constituencies that the parties will contest from. The meet started half past noon today.

Sources also claim that Civil Aviation Minister Piyush Goyal and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Thambidurai today offered worship at Tirupati temple, while BJP president Amit Shah is slated to visit the State in late hours today.

Earlier, former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss denied to comment on the party that is to be held today at his father’s residence. He said he will talk to reporters in Chennai come Monday about the alliance and other issues.
