Chennai: With the AIADMK almost finalising the alliance formalities with its partners, barring the DMDK, the ruling party is gearing up to kickstart its Lok Sabha election campaign.

Amid AIADMK leaders expressing confidence that DMDK will join their alliance, an emergency meeting headed by the party president Vijayakanth was held in the DMDK headquarters at Koyambedu today.

It is said measures to end the deadlock in the poll alliance were discussed during the meeting and a pact will be signed soon. Sources also said Vijayakanth would attend the mega rally to be presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Vandalur tomorrow.

Senior leaders from AIADMK and other alliance parties will take part in the meeting. The constituencies from which the alliance parties will contest are expected to be announced after the meeting.

Meanwhile, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan has said that the party has asked to contest from Thoothukudi. It may be noted that DMK’s Kanimozhi has also sought to contest from the constituency.

Also for the first time after signing the alliance deal with AIADMK, PMK youth wing president Anbumani Ramadoss today met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the Secretariat. It is said the duo discussed about the Cauvery excess water scheme.

In an unrelated development, AMMK founder TTV Dhinakaran today filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court’s verdict of allotting Two Leaves symbol to the AIADMK headed by Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

On Monday, the AIADMK, which already allotted seven seats to PMK, five to BJP, one each to NR Congress and Puthiya Tamizhagam, allocated one constituency to New Justice Party. A pact was signed between AIADMK and NJP at the former’s headquarters at Royapettah.
