Captain Marvel is superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers and it the twenty-first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is set in 1995 and it follows the story of Carol Danvers, played by Brie Larson, who rises up to become Captain Marvel as Earth is caught in the center of a galactic war between two alien worlds.

Unlike other super hero movies where the audience are taken for a ride from how the character transforms from a nobody to some one with huge responsibilities and powers, in Captain Marvel though, we are thrown right in the middle of Kree Empire’s capital planet of Hala and we see star force warrior Vers (Brie Larson) who suffers from night mares.

As the movie progresses, several flash backs keep popping the screen in a vibrant sequence of jump cuts and VFX. Once Vers lands on earth and finds about her past life, she comes in contact with Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson). Their chemistry is well performed. It reminds us of a cute buddy cop film where they make sure to look after each other. Nick in this movie is still a growing member working for S.H.I.E.L.D and he is funny. Also, he is accompanied by the ever loyal Agent Phil Coulson, who still makes us appreciate he is calm demeanor.

Like in every previous Marvel film, Captain Marvel is flooded with break neck car chase scenes, aerial dog fight, aliens, magnanimous sized space ships. The visuals are enchanting to look at. The scene when Carol Denvers transforms into Captain Marvel is well shot in a slow mo sequence. But the one that stands out is the usage of VFX to de-age Nick Fury and Agent Phil as over twenty years younger. There is this cat called Goose and you will be surprised to what it does in the end.

Perhaps one of the most heart warming scene through out the film is no doubt when Stan Lee’s cameo. Die hard fans might be left teary-eyed as the tribute is just charming. Also, make sure you sit until the credits roll out. You can’t afford to miss Captain Marvel’s mid-credit scene as it will leave you whistling out loud. Despite offering the usual load of entertainment every Marvel film offers, as you come out of the theatre, you start realising that the movie was simply made just to serve as a leading ‘plot point’ for Avengers: End Game.
