Chennai: To reach out to more people, the Election Commission has been making use of technology and social media during the elections.
Even during the last Assembly Elections in the State, social media was used to create awareness among the voters. For this Lok Sabha election, the Commission has introduced several apps and websites. ‘News Today’ gives its readers a glimpse of the apps and websites introduced by the Election Commission.
cVIGIL
This android app is introduced for the voters to notify if there is any violation of the model code of conduct. It is said that action will be taken against the violators within one hour of the registration of the complaint and the update will be given to the complainant.
VOTER HELPLINE MOBILE APP
This app can be used to check the voters name, add new names and can get to know all the announcements of the Election Commission.
SAMADHAN
It is a public grievance redressal system which has been conceptualised as a comprehensive system with multiple modes for receiving complaints (through online, toll free 1950), email, mobile application, fax, post, sms, online processing and tracking of complaints. An Android app for public grievance redressal system has also been developed.
TOLL FREE NUMBER
The Election Commission has said the voters can make use of the toll free number 1950 to know if their name is in the voters list.
SUGAM
It is a vehicle management system with facility of issuance of requisition letters for vehicles taken by political parties for campaign. It captures vehicle details with address, mobile number and bank details of the owner and driver, transfer of vehicles from one district to another district etc. An Android app for vehicle management system has also been developed.
SUVIDHA
It is a single window system for candidates and political parties to apply for permissions (meetings, rallies, vehicles, temporary election office, loudspeakers, helicopters and helipads etc). The ECI has issued directions to give permissions within 24 hours.
PwD APP
Citizens in the category of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) can request for new registration, change in address, change in particulars and mark themselves as PwD through the use of the mobile application. By simply entering their contact details, the Booth Level Officer is assigned to provide doorstep facility. PwDs can also request for a wheelchair during polling.
