Bringing pride to Chennai, Savithashri, a 12-year-old girl residing at Ganapathipuram Main Road, was recently honoured with the title, ‘Young Achiever’ by the Rotary Club of Guindy, for her achievements in the game of chess.
The youngster who is a three-time National, four-time State champion, speaks to News Today.
Excerpts from her interview:
Q: How did your journey start?
A: I started playing chess at the age of five. It was my brother, who introduced me to the game. After seeing him playing, I too tried and later picked up the nuances, with the help of my coaches Thirukalathi and R B Ramesh.
Q: How do you get time to practice?
A: I train every day. My school is extremely
supportive. So, I stay at home, read lessons here and practice chess.
Q: What is your aim?
A: I want to become a Grandmaster. I also wish to represent the nation and win at the
Olympics.
Q: Tell us about your achievements.
A: I have won gold and silver medals in State, national and international events.
Q: Who is your inspiration?
A: I admire Harika and Humpy.
Q: Are your parents supportive?
A: My mother and father accompany me, whenever I travel for events.
