Chennai: The Madras High Court has refused to bar DMK president M K Stalin from speaking about Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani.

It is natural for ruling party politicians and those belonging to the Opposition to criticise each other during election campaigns, said the court.

The court was passing orders on a case filed by Velumani seeking a bar on Stalin criticising him and making corruption charges against him. He had also demanded Rs 1 crore in damages.

The High Court, delivering its verdict today, held that it was natural for ruling party politicians and Opposition party politicians to criticise each other during elections. So, the court refused to stop Stalin from talking about Velumani.

The court also said there was no bar on Stalin raising the Pollachi sexual assault case in his campaign speeches.

Taking umbrage at Stalin accusing him during electioneering, of massive corruption in his Ministry, Velumani had moved the court to pass a gag order on him.
