Puducherry: The ban on fishing operations was in force from 15 April to 14 June. The Pondy government yesterday launched a scheme to help fishermen’s families who had to forgo income during the ban in the Union Territory.
Health and Fisheries Minister Malladi Krishna Rao provide Rs 5,500 to each of the families of fishermen. Each of the 19,290 fishermen families was being extended the relief at an expenditure of Rs 10.60 crore.
Members elected from constituencies having fishing villages were present at the launch of the scheme.
