Chennai: Shree Agarwal Navyuvak Sangh (SAANS) in association with Shree Agarwal Navyuvak Trust distributed scholarship to around 300 underprivileged students to the tune of Rs 10 lakh at Agarwal Vidyalaya at Vepery, Sunday.
SAANS president Sumit Poddar said the organisation provides scholarship to all the needy and underprivileged students from class V to XII. A letter was sent to more than 200 schools in Chennai about the scholarship and students were asked to apply through SAANS portal.
SAANS has been providing scholarship for more than five decades. About 900 applications were received this year, out of which around 300 were shortlisted based on the criteria like single parent, financial background and the marks scored by the students. Scholarship is provided to only one child in a family. If siblings apply in the family, the girl child gets the preference or the younger is on priority, a press release said.
Harish Sanghi of Dulichand Sanghi Charitable Trust and Dayasadan Agarwal Vidyalaya correspondent Srawan Kumar Todi gave away scholarship to students.
