Chennai: A major fire broke out at the branch of a nationalised bank at Pammal near Pallavaram this morning.

According to sources, an electric short circuit led to the fire at Syndicate bank located at Krishna Nagar.

The watchman on duty informed about the fire to the nearby police station and to the fire station.

Police personnel from Shankar Nagar station and personnel from Fire and Rescue Services, Tambaram arrived at the spot. It took close to two hours for them to put out the fire.

Property worth Rs 10 lakh has been reportedly gutted in the fire, including four air conditioners, three computers and important documents kept in the bank. However, sources said the lockers were intact.
