Aurobindo library hoists spiritual flag to mark scrapping of Article 370

Puducherry: A ‘Spiritual Flag of United India’ to celebrate the abrogation of Article 370 conferring special status on Jammu and Kashmir has been hoisted atop the Aurobindo library here. The flag was raised on Wednesday by the management of the library which is attached to the Aurobindo ashram.

A source in the library told newsmen on Thursday that the spiritualist Aurobindo had said, “India should be one and the countrycould not be divided. The country has a spiritual mission for the world.” This message was delivered on 15 August 1947.

When Puducherry and other French settlements in India became free through de facto merger on 1 November 1954, the ‘Spiritual Flag of United India’ was hoisted that day atop the ashram main premises here and the Mother of the Ashram delivered a message then highlighting the importance of the day.

The source said the scrapping of the Article 370 through the initiative of Parliament on August 5 is a ‘historic and bold’ measure. The source said, “A number of devotees approached the librarywith a plea to hoist the flag and the request was conceded and the flag was hoisted just for a day on Wednesday.”

The flag would normally be hoisted atop the library building on four darshan days every year including the birth anniversaries of Sri Aurobindo (15 August) and the Mother (21 February).
