Chennai: A police constable took his own life after murdering his wife at Puzhal here last night.
The incident sent shock waves in the locality and among the police fraternity.
Naresh (39), working as constable with the Modern Police Control Room in the city Commissioner’s office, Vepery, was also assigned patrol duty in the New Washermenpet area.
He was married to Jaya for seven years. Last night, while the couple’s son Varun had gone for dance classes, the duo got into a fight.
In a fit of rage, Naresh stabbed Jaya with a kitchen knife. He later, hanged himself with a shawl.
Following the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Madhavaram, Ravali Priya, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Puzhal, Ravi, and Inspector, Puzhal, Thangadurai visited the spot.
The bodies were sent to Government Stanley Hospital for post-mortem.
