Banwarilal Purohit takes part in Chennai Global Economic Summit 2019

Chennai: Tamilnadu has a very dynamic and promising economy and human resource. The State has a diversified manufacturing sector and features among the leaders in several industries such as automobiles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, leather products, chemicals, among others, said Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

He was participating as chief guest at the valedictory and award conferring ceremony of Chennai Global Economic Summit 2019 and Sixth World Tamils Economic Conference organised by World Tamils Economic Foundation and Madras Development Society here Monday.

Tamilnadu has a well-developed infrastructure with excellent road and rail networks and seven airports. The State is the second-highest contributor to India’s renewable energy capacity and has a total installed power capacity of 30,255 MW, the Governor said.

The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is $229.7 billion with a growth rate of 12.5 per cent and the Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) stands at $199.69 billion. Tamilnadu recorded $30.5 billion worth of exports in 2018-19, contributing 9.3 per cent to India’s net exports, he added.

The Tamilnadu government organised the second Global Investor Meet (GIM) on 23 and 24 January, 2019. ‘Out of the committed investments in GIM 2019, 53 projects have commenced production and 219 are under various stages of implementation. Since GIM 2019, 55 New MoUs were signed with companies from various countries such as Japan, Germany, South Korea, USA & UAE. The new MoUs committed investment of Rs 14,359 crore and 63,786 new jobs,’ the Governor said.

“The recent foreign trip of Tamilnadu Chief Minister to the UK, US and the Emirates achieved 41 MoUs for investments to the tune of Rs 8,830 crore, which could generate around 37,300 jobs,” he added.

The Governor also presented awards under the title ‘Ulagathamizh Maamani’ (Crown Jewel of Word Tamil) to the eminent personalities from all over the world for their distinguished services to the world Tamil community, especially for socio-economic development of the Tamil community.

Banwarilal praised World Tamils Economic Conference convenor VRS Sampath, former Mauritius president Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory and PGP Group of Companies chairman Palani G Periasamy for organising the conference and providing a common platform for entrepreneurs, businessmen and bureaucrats to discuss global economic issues.
