GV Prakash Kumar is not just a successful music composer, but a busy actor working in half-a-dozen films in the lead role. Adding one more feather in his cap is that he would be debuting in Hollywood with a movie titled Trap City. GVP plays a surgeon in the flick who saves the heros life.
Trap City tells the story of a struggling rapper working as a drop man for a drug kingpin. He records a song that becomes a viral sensation just before his arrest. His fame intensifies because of his crime but after an attempt to kill him, he faces the greatest choice of his life, he says.
Talking about the experience of working on the film, he says that he thoroughly enjoyed it.
Excerpts from his interview:
Do you see any difference between the working styles of Tamil film industry and Hollywood?
A: Both are different industries and therefore, one cannot compare. Both have their strengths. The primary difference I found was that they use live sound and therefore, no prompting is possible when one delivers lines.
Tell us about your experience shooting for Trap City?
A: I shot for around three days in Nashville. We rehearsed for a day before beginning to shoot. Though Brandon T Jackson is a popular star, he is basically a very nice person and I enjoyed working with him.
Have you scored music for Trap City?
A: I only acted in Trap City and did not score music.
Tell us about the song Veyyon Silli in Soorarai Pottru composed by you?
A: It is an interesting fusion. I attempted it for the first time. I am happy that it was launched mid-air, aboard a SpiceJet Boeing 737 flight in a first-of-its-kind event. Working with filmmaker Sudha Kongara and lyricist Vivek was a wonderful experience. And it was a dream come true moment to be part of a Suriya starrer.
What are your forthcoming releases as hero?
A: Bachelor, Ayngaran, Aayiram Jenmangal, Jail, 4G, Kadhalai Thedi Nithya Nandha and Kadhalikka Yarumillai. These films are in different stages of production.
Tell us about movies featuring your musical score?
A: I am thankful to audience for the wonderful reception they gave to my songs in Asuran. Songs in Soorarai Pottru have come good. I have immense faith in Vasantha Balans Jail. It has a strong story and songs have a part to play. Of course there is Thalaivi, a bio- pic on former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. There is another Suriya starrer to be directed by Vetri Maaran.
