Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today announced the extension of lockdown in the State till 30 April. He said that the decision is taken as there are chances of the coronavirus virus spreading if the lockdown is lifted.
He said that provisions for May month will be provided free of cost at fair price shops and added essentials including 15 kg rice, one kg dhal and one kg kerosene will be given free of cost to people from other States.
“Bakeries and hotels can continue to function with the existing norms and can only give parcels,” he said. He also said Rs 1,000 will be given to all registered employees who are not part of any unions. The announcement has been made as the 21 days lockdown announced by the Central government ends tomorrow.
