Chennai: Despite its vast population and not so robust healthcare infrastructure, India is waging a brave battle against coronavirus, and its numbers, both in terms of affected persons and deaths, are far less than the so-called developed nations.
Even as other countries and global bodies are appreciating the efforts of the government for proactively taking lockdown and other measures, here comes another interesting information supporting India’s might.
The United States, which is facing the world’s worst coronavirus crisis, is arranging for flights to bring back its citizens from India. But a lot of them don’t want to go back.
On the contrary, Indians living and working in the US want to come back to India. Amongst these Indians, there are some doctors and nurses, who are helping America to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to reports, despite the availability of special flights, thousands from the US and the UK don’t want to go back homes and are willing to stay in India till full-stop is put to the pandemic.
Recently, Indian High Commission officials in the UK said, ‘About 60 students came asking to be taken back to India despite the curfew and the travel advisory. They were counselled by the high commission officers and were suggested options for accommodation and food at highly subsidised rates.’
So far, 13,000 Americans have been evacuated from India. However, more than 24,000 US nationals are currently in the country and five flights are scheduled for this week to rescue them. But, most of the these people are unwilling to return to home
