Chennai: The State police have arrested seven lakh persons for violating norms of curfew and social distancing.
The restrictions have been imposed across the State since 24 March. Police are taking to task those who are stepping out of their houses for non-essential errands.
So far, the police in various districts have arrested 7,04,113 persons.
A press release from the DGP’s office said that 6,48,809 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts. As many as 5,17,497 vehicles were seized.
However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.
A total amount of Rs 14,69,93,510 has been collected from violators as fines since the first lockdown.
