9,60,038 persons arrested in TN for violating curfew


Chennai: With the Tamilnadu government extending the lockdown till end of August with a few relaxations, the State police are on their toes enforcing it.

Till now, they have arrested as many as 9,60,038 persons for defying the lockdown. Since 24 March, in order to curb the spread of Covid-19 and to enforce social distancing, the State police have been arresting those who ventured out during curfew.

Nearly 8,69,270 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.

As many as 6,78,326 vehicles were seized from these persons. However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner. A total amount of Rs 20,25,18,098 has been collected from violators as fine.
