Chennai:Ā Tamilnadu government has announced more relaxations in the lockdown measures. It has permitted libraries, except branch and village libraries, to function from 1 September. However, those above 65 years will not be allowed.
Also, Koyambedu Wholesale Vegetables, Fruits and Flowers Market Complex, the largest in Asia, will reopen in phases with strict regulations, four months after it was closed down. The marketās shutters were closed on 5 May, 2020 after it emerged as a major Covid-19 cluster.
While the whole grains wholesale shops will open from 18 September, the vegetable vendors will set up their shops from 28 September, following which the fruit shops will open.
Subsequently, the semi-wholesale vegetable traders, fruit and flower traders will also be permitted to return Ā to the market in a phased manner.
The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam, after meeting the tradersā unions representatives.
