Chennai: After Chennai, Coimbatore has become the undisputed No.2 in Tamilnadu when it comes to coronavirus cases. The second largest city in the State is witnessing a steady increase in Covid-19 infections.
Coimbatore, which tops the western belt in coronavirus cases, reported 530 cases on Thursday followed by 291 in Salem, 191 in Tirupur, 124 in Dharmapuri and 112 in Namakkal. Together the zone had 1,513 new cases with 11,995 people still under treatment.
According to State Health department officials, “we have increased our focus on Coimbatore. Like Chennai, we are hopeful of bringing the situation under control in Kovai too.”
Tamilnadu on Thursday registered 5,560 new Covid-1 9 cases, taking the total number of persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in the State so far to 5,25,420.
According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department this evening, the capital city of Chennai registered 992 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has reached 1,52,567.
As far as Chennai’s neighbouring districts are concerned, Chengalpattu registered 283 new cases, Kancheepuram saw 187 infections in the last 24 hours, and Thiruvallur posted 239 positive cases.
