Chennai: With Coimbatore recording more than 600 fresh cases of Covid-19 for the second time after September 21, the district administration has announced that it would be implementing the recent G.O where people will be fined Rs 200 for not wearing masks, Rs 500 for coming out and moving around in a containment zone, not maintaining social distancing and for spitting in public places.
All commercial establishments, that do not follow rules will be levied a fine of Rs 5,000. Meanwhile, Director of Public Health Dr T S Selvavinayagam ordered Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) to increase the number of beds with high flow oxygen support by at least 200 in the next 14 days.
While 4,801 persons from the district were undergoing treatment for Covid-19 on Friday, 517 persons recovered from the disease and returned home.
The Health Department said that six more persons from the district died of the disease, taking the death toll to 408.
Tamilnadu recorded 5,679 positive cases of Covid-19 Friday, bringing the state’s tally to 5,69,370. Among these, Chennai reported 1,193 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 1,60,926.
