Covid-19 cases drop drastically in Chennai


Chennai: With active cases falling in Chennai, the containment zones have largely reduced.

From over 70 red zones, now it has come to less than 20 streets. There are as many as five nieghbourhoods which do not have any containment zones. This morning the total positive dropped to 10,628.

Since the lockdown, Chennai has recorded 1,94,139 cases of Covid-19, of which 1,79,931 have recovered since the pandemic began. Chennai is showing 92 per cent recovery rate.

Nearly 3,580 persons have died due to the viral infection. As per records, 449 persons have died in Teynampet, 403 persons have died in Anna Nagar and 400 casualties are reported in Kodambakkam.

On 23 October, 11,822 tests were carried out by the city Corporation’s health department.

The Greater Chennai Corporation gave an area-wise break-up of the places which have high numbers of Covid-19.

According to the data, there are no places with 1,000 cases. Anna Nagar has 907 positive cases and 850 persons in Kodambakkam have the virus.

The pandemic has affected more men than women, as per data, 61.95 per cent of the patients are male and 38.05 per cent are female.

Around 18.65 per cent of those contracting the virus is from the age group of 50-59 years.

Kodambakkam and Anna Nagar have the highest recovery rate as close to 19,000 people have overcome the viral infection.
