Chennai: All eyes are on consultative meetings of school heads and parents which are slated be held at all government, government-aided and private schools on 9 November, as a decision on whether to reopen educational institutions in Tamilnadu on 16 November or not would be decided based on the outcome of these meetings.
The Tamilnadu government will decide on re-opening of schools and colleges in the State based on suggestions received at the consultative meeting, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said on Friday.
Earlier, Palaniswami, in an official release, announced the date for re-opening of schools and colleges outside containment zones. He said that schools (for classes 9-12), colleges, research institutes and other educational institutions can open from 16 November.
However, the move was objected by opposition leaders and some sections of parents, following which the government has decided to hold consultative meetings.
School principals would hold consultation meetings on 9 November with parents and parent-teacher association office-bearers on re-starting classes for Class 9 to Class 12.
As per an official statement, the meetings would start at 10 am on that day in government, State-aided and private schools across Tamilnadu by following Covid-19 preventive measures.
“Parents of students from Classes 9 to 12 can put forth their opinions in the meetings and those who could not, may send letters voicing their views,” School Education Department, Principal Secretary, Dheeraj Kumar said.
