Covid cases going unchecked in Chennai?


Chennai: Amid reports that the Covid-19 cases are fast reducing in Chennai, it is being claimed by a few that the city was not screening people coming from other States adequately.

Many flights land in the city airport in a day other than trains and many others come by road.

The influx of people to the city are not tracked to monitor their movement and health status after arrival, it is alleged.

According to data given by the Greater Chennai Corporation, this morning the tally of total positive cases was 4,374 which is at two per cent.

Since the lockdown, Chennai has recorded 2,12,014 cases of Covid-19, of which 2,03,824 have recovered over the months. The recovery rate in the city is at 96 per cent.

The most number of recoveries took place at Anna Nagar with 22,529 persons overcoming covid.

It is reported that nearly 3,816 persons have died due to the viral infection. As per records, 482 persons died in Teynampet, 431 casualties were reported in Anna Nagar and 422 deaths were recorded in Kodambakkam.

On 22 November, 9580 tests were carried out by the City Corporation’s health department.  Currently, Anna Nagar has 433 positive cases and 345 cases are reported in Kodambakkam.

Places such as Manali have the least number of cases at 52 and Shollinganallur has 72 positive cases. Nearly, 61.47 per cent of those affected with Covid are male and 38.53 per cent are female.

The viral infection has most affected people in the age group of 50-59 with 19.30 per cent belonging to this age group.
