Mara, the official remake of hit Malayalam film, in unconventional and engrossing. Three cheers to debutant director Dhilip Kumar for not opting for a faithful remake but retaining only its essence to come out with a quality product.

In today’ busy world where emotions and relationships are taken over by technology, the movie speaks about Maara who is a free-spirited guy who is real and craves to spread love around. Life matters the moat for him.

Madhavan as Maara is very apt. Someone who goea the extra mile to see amile on people around him be it a thief or a kulfi seller. Paaru (Shraddha Srinath) as restoration architect has proved that she can be a versatile actress who will have a long career in the industry.

Sequence of events leads to Paaru go in search of Maara. The innocence and urge to keep others happy and value for relationahips makes her fall for him. The star cast too goes the skin of their characters to deliver their beat. Moulee as theatre artiste, Shivda as doctor affected by an incident in her life and stand up comedian Alexander Babu in a role quite typical of him are praiseworthy.

Cinematographers Dinesh Krishnan and Karthik Muthukumar deserve mention fot capturing Maara’s journey in q colourful manner while Sam C’s music compliments it well.

Madhavan is the flesh and blood of the movie. Strikingly different from how Dulquer did in original, he brings a freshness in the movie. His onscreen chemistry with Shraddha is good.

Maara is definitely a delight to watch. But it gets little slow in second half. Had little pace is infused, Maara would have stood little more taller.
