Chennai: Police have issued summons to four officials in the issue of carrying three EMVs and one VVPAT machine in two wheelers near Velacheri.

Sources said that the officials have been asked to appear at the Velacheri police station on 12 April at 10 am.

The summons were issued after public caught some men wearing polling official badges carrying the voting machines on two-wheelers near Velacheri on the day of election.

The Election Commission has suspended the officials besides ordering an investigation into the incident.

The public caught hold of the men near Taramani main road and handed them over to the police. As the word of ‘poll officials’ transporting the machines on two-wheelers spread across the constituency, members of Opposition DMK and Congress arrived in the area and were involved in an argument with local police personnel.

However, Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo assuaged fears and clarified that they were unpolled EVMs kept in the reserve.
