New Delhi: Uttarakhand BJP unit will hold its legislature party meeting today to decide on a new leader after Tirath Singh Rawat resigned as the Chief Minister.
Uttarakhand BJP unit president Madan Kaushik said the legislative party will meet at 3 pm and Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will be the central observer at the meeting.
Rawat handed in his resignation to the Governor on Friday, barely four months after he took charge and just ahead of polls next year in the state.
“Given the constitutional crisis, I felt it was right for me to resign. Bypolls could not be held because of Covid-19,” he said in a brief statement in Hindi.
Tirath Rawat, who had been in Delhi for the past three days for meetings with the BJP leadership, was asked by the high command to quit, reports said.Ā Soon after, he sought an appointment with Governor Baby Rani Maurya.
