Writer, director and humorist Chitralaya Gopu, who has written wrote Tamil classic comedies like Kaathalikka Neramillai, Galatta Kalyanam, Uththaravindri Ulle Va and Directed films like Kaasethan Kadavulada, Athaiya Maamiya, turned 90 on July 2.
He was awarded the Kalaimamani in 1992.
His Kaathalikka Neramillai still stands strong as one of best comedy films to have ever been made in Tamil. Gopu was also a very successful playwright who has done some very successful plays like Maaya Bazaar, Srimathi, Galatta Kalyanam, Pattam Parakkuthaiya, under his Theatre Group Unity Club.
Later on, Gopu also found success in TV, through his comedy show called Washingtonil Thirumanam.
Celebrities from Tamil film industry including AVM Saravanan, Kamal Haasan, Sivakumar, Actor Ramkumar, Actress, Kanchana, Rajshree, L. Vijayalakshmi, Latha and Kutti Padmini have sent him their video wishes on the occasion.
Gopu now resides in Thiruvanmiyur with his family.
