Chennai: Chennai division of Southern Railway has inducted a Crew Friendly Dual Mode Shunting Locomotive ‘PASUMAI’ 3.0 (Modified DMSL Locos) at Puratchi Thalaivar Dr MGR Chennai Central Railway Station at Platform No.6.
General Manager John Thomas was the chief guest and inaugurated the eco-friendly locomotive. The first Pasumai Dual mode Shunting AC/Battery operated shunting Locomotive (23061) was commissioned on 6 October 2020. In addition to that, four more locos have been converted by Electric Loco shed Arakkonam.
The Electric Loco shed, Arakkonam has introduced ‘Pasumai 3.0’ with single key operation by modifying some electrical and pneumatics circuits, which will reduce the cab changing time of shunting to bare minimum of 30-40 seconds against 3-5 minutes. Five DMSL have been introduced in line of PASUMAI series till date – 23061, 23040, 23082, 23085, 23102 and achieved fuel cost savings and GHG emission, said a Southern Railway release.
