Chennai: The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert to four districts of Tamilnadu- Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvannamalai. Around a dozen districts are also set to get moderate to heavy rain, according to weather officials.
Following heavy rains and weather forecast, holiday has been declared today for schools in 20 districts- Cuddalore, Pudukottai, Kancheepuram, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Perambalur, Nagapattinam, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet, Namakkal, Chennai, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur, Vellore, Tiruchi and Tirupattur.
Widespread rains over the State are set to continue today too, and heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over the delta districts, Cuddalore, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Madurai and Kanyakumari districts etc. Most places in coastal Tamilnadu may experience rains of moderate intensity.
Since Sunday, several parts of Tamilnadu have been receiving light to heavy showers. The heavy rains that began on Monday evening continued until Wednesday morning. According to an official IMD report, thunderstorm with light to moderate rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur districts of Tamilnadu as well in the Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
