Chennai: The Tamilnadu government has hiked the financial assistance to journalists who die in harness up to Rs five lakh.
A Government Order (GO) issued in this regard said the financial assistance given to the family members of journalists who die after putting in 20 years of service has been hiked from Rs three lakh to Rs five lakh.
For those who had put in 15, ten and five years of service, it has been hiked to Rs 3.75 lakh, Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 1.25 lakh from Rs 2.5 lakh, Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 75,000 respectively.
The hike was made in line with the announcement made by Information and Publicity Minister M P Saminathan in the State Assembly.
Editors, Sub-editors, Reporters, Photographers and proofreaders employed in media will be eligible for the assistance to be given from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief fund if they die in service.
