Chennai: As many as 610 tested positive for Covid-19 in Tamilnadu on Sunday — this was marginally higher than the numbers reported in the last two days. Chennai topped the chart with 171 new cases. With ten more people dying, the State’s Covid death toll increased to 36,735.
While no fresh infection was reported in Theni and Mayiladuthurai, Coimbatore (89), Erode (45), Tiruppur (40), Salem (26) and Chengalpattu (48) continued to report a high number of infections. In 22 districts, the cases were in a single digit.
As far as vaccination is concerned, more than 17.3 lakh people got inoculated through the State’s 16th mega vaccination camp on Sunday. Among them, nearly 70 per cent got their second doses.
With the discharge of 679 people, the number of recovered patients went up to 27,00,673.
A total of 1,00,284 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 5.69 crore.
