Chennai: Hours after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister M K Stalin, Tamilnadu government has announced a slew of fresh lockdown relaxations following the drop in Covid-19 cases.

Most restrictions have been withdrawn as the government has allowed play schools and nursery schools with LKG and UKG sections to reopen physical classes starting 16 February.

It also allowed the trade fairs while extending a ban for political, cultural and social events till 2 March. Meanwhile, the number of people allowed to participate in marriage functions is increased from 100 to 200 while funerals will be allowed to be conducted with 100 persons.

Movie theaters, restaurants, concerts, textile showrooms, gyms, shops and malls can function with 100 per cent occupancy. However, the government has strictly informed all the shops and malls to have sanitisers and thermal screenings at the entrance.

Schools for classes 1 to 12, colleges and universities and other educational institutes were reopened in the state on 1 February, according to an earlier order issued.
