NT Bureau : Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Fisheries, Dairying and Animal Husbandry L Murugan Monday visited the project site of fishing harbours that are being built in the backwaters in Azhagankuppam in Villupuram district and Alamparaikuppam in Chengalpet district of Tamilnadu, as part of Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF).

The two fishing harbours Ā are being constructed at a cost of Rs. 235 crore to fulfill the long-standing demands of 64 hamlets. Dr Murugan suggested various incorporations like construction of hospital, ice factory and processing units Ā in the proposed Fishing harbour to reduce input costs.

Later, addressing the fishermen on the occasion he said that the demands of fishermen will be fulfilled by the Centre under the leadership of Prime
Minister Narendra Modi.He said that a separate Ministry has been set up and more than Rs. 5,000 crore has been allotted to improve the infrastructure. Fisheries has been included in the Prime Minister’s Gati Sakthi to ensure fast implementation of the projects, the Minister added.
