Chennai, Oct 18: Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed the crucial role that law and order play in attracting investments and ensuring the prosperity of the state. During a review meeting held in Maraimalai Nagar as part of the ‘CM on Field Visit’ program, he discussed various aspects of maintaining peace and security in the region, and his instructions are indicative of a strong commitment to public safety and economic growth.
Stalin highlighted that the prevailing law and order situation in Tamil Nadu has contributed significantly to creating a peaceful and conducive environment for investors. He commended the state for its ability to attract investments, positioning it as a frontrunner in the country for business opportunities.
One of the key directives issued by the Chief Minister was for the state police to effectively combat anti-social elements, halt the movement of narcotics, and prioritize the prevention and prosecution of crimes against children, women, and individuals belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/STs). Stalin emphasized the importance of bringing the perpetrators of these crimes to justice.
The CM’s resolute stance against anti-social elements was clear as he instructed the police officials to take all necessary legal actions to eliminate criminal activities in the state. He noted that the absence of major law and order issues in the past two years has played a pivotal role in attracting investments to the state.
To tackle crimes that can create fear among the public, such as murder, attempted murder, and chain snatching, the Chief Minister encouraged the police to leverage technology and innovative methods. He also suggested the creation of “friends of police” groups to prevent these crimes effectively.
Addressing the issue of narcotics, Stalin recognised that they are a significant driver of various criminal activities. He instructed the police to intensify efforts to curtail the movement of narcotics and take stern action against drug peddlers to safeguard the future generation. Special emphasis was placed on clamping down on the sale of contraband near educational institutions.
In addition to preventing crimes, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for quality disposal of petitions from the public and expediting the process of filing chargesheets to ensure convictions. He highlighted the importance of expeditiously handling cases related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso) and SC/ST atrocity cases.
Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena, Principal Secretary (Home Department) P Amudha, DGP (Law & Order) Shankar Jiwal, and senior police officers from the region participated in this crucial review meeting, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing law and order in Tamil Nadu.
