Chennai, Feb 8:. A tragic landslide in Ooty’s Lovedale area, located in the picturesque Nilgiris district, has resulted in the loss of at least six lives and left several others injured. The exact cause of the landslide is yet to be determined, although initial reports suggest that a partial collapse of a nearby building may have triggered the disaster at a construction site, leading to the unfortunate loss of lives.The victims of this devastating incident are six women construction workers who were tragically caught in the landslide. They have been identified as Muthulakshmi, Sangeetha, Bakkyam, Uma, Sakila, and Radha. Their untimely demise has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the dangers faced by those working in hazardous conditions.
In addition to the fatalities, four other workers, identified as Mahesh, Shathi, Jayanthi, and Thomas, were fortunate enough to be rescued from the site of the landslide. They are currently receiving medical treatment at the Ooty Government Hospital, where they are undergoing care for their injuries sustained during the ordeal.
In response to this tragic incident, Chief Minister MK Stalin has announced compensation measures to support the families of the deceased and the injured. Each family of the six individuals who lost their lives will receive Rs 2 lakh in compensation, while Rs 50,000 will be provided to each person injured in the landslide. These compensation measures aim to provide some relief and support to the affected families during this difficult time.
