Amidst a series of recent incidents involving the confiscation of illegal drugs across the state, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has voiced alarm over the rampant drug menace plaguing Tamil Nadu. In a recorded video message, Palaniswami questioned whether the state has become a wholesale godown for illegal drugs, highlighting the severity of the issue.
Palaniswami cited several alarming instances, including the seizure of meth in Madurai, ganja packets disguised as sweets intended for distribution among schoolchildren in Ulundurpettai, and the discovery of drugs in the Kodungaiyur garbage dump in Chennai. These incidents, he asserted, raise serious concerns about the extent of the drug problem in Tamil Nadu.
Describing the scale of illegal drugs in the state as “as big as the ocean,” Palaniswami emphasized that only a fraction of these drugs are seized, indicating the magnitude of the challenge faced by law enforcement authorities. He also highlighted the involvement of expelled DMK functionary A.R. Jaffer Sadiq in an international drug mafia, further underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Palaniswami expressed disappointment over the alleged involvement of individuals close to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s family in drug-related activities, accusing the ruling party of failing to address the issue effectively. He reiterated his commitment to raising awareness about the drug menace and holding the DMK government accountable for its failure to curb the problem.
In response to the escalating crisis, the AIADMK has announced plans to stage protests across district headquarters in the state, demanding decisive action against the drug mafia and the eradication of illegal drugs from Tamil Nadu. Palaniswami urged the Tamil Nadu police to protect the identity of complainants and take proactive measures to combat the drug menace.
Despite the challenges posed by the pervasive drug problem, Palaniswami expressed confidence in the Tamil Nadu police and called for concerted efforts to eliminate drugs from the state. As the AIADMK intensifies its campaign against the drug mafia, the spotlight remains on the government’s response to this pressing issue and the steps taken to safeguard the future of Tamil Nadu’s youth.
