Despite Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s tenacious fight, Sri Lanka’s Lahiru Kumara in the final morning right-arm quick bowler ended the hosts’ resistance by grabbing the last two Bangladesh wickets and sealed a thumping 192-run win in the second Test in Chattogram.

Sri Lanka sealed the victory during the first session of the fifth day of the final Test of the two-match series, with Khaled Ahmed the final Bangladesh batter to fall at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium as Sri Lanka completed a clean 2-0 sweep. Resuming their innings at 268/7, with Mehidy batting positively and dangerously at the crease. Bangladesh batter Taijul Islam tried but lost his wicket to Kamindu Mendis for 14. Hasan Mahmud displayed a good defensive aptitude for a short time and frustrated bowler.

But Lahiru delieverd a rifling sharp bouncer that Mahmud scooped to Nishan Madushka at short leg, before removing Khaled Mahmud with a searing yorker. Sri Lanka dominated the series away from home, with Kamindu Mendis scoring the most runs with 367 at an average of 122.33. Mendis scored an unbeaten 92 in the first innings as Sri Lanka posted a massive total of 531, and their bowlers soon backed up their efforts by dismissing Bangladesh for 178 in reply.

Fast bowler Asitha Fernando was Sri Lanka’s standout performer, taking four wickets in the first innings, while fellow fast Lahiru Kumara added four wickets in the second innings to help seal the victory. Sri Lankan bowlers, especially the spinners Prabhat Jayasuriya and Kamindu Mendis, gave the team an upper hand on the fourth day of the second Test. At Day 4 stumps, Bangladesh were 268/7 in their second innings with Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam on the crease.

AIADMK accuses TVK govt of Law and Order failure

NT BureauJuly 6, 20260

Chennai, July 6:
The AIADMK on Sunday launched a strong attack on the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), alleging a complete breakdown of law and order in Tamil Nadu and claiming that the government is preoccupied with securing its survival through “horse-trading.”

Citing a series of recent criminal incidents across the State, the party said the situation reflects a serious lapse in governance and public safety. It pointed to cases including the stabbing of a 19-year-old woman in Erode after she refused a marriage proposal, a double murder near Kallidaikurichi, the recovery of a missing 17-year-old girl’s body from a well in Thanjavur, and the alleged sexual assault of a 60-year-old woman in Arcot.

The AIADMK alleged that instead of addressing such issues, the ruling dispensation is focused on garnering legislative support to remain in power. It described the current administration as one sustained through political defections and alignments.

The party also criticised the condition of Amma Unavagam canteens, stating that the subsidised food scheme introduced by former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has been neglected. It accused the government of allowing the scheme to deteriorate as part of political vendetta.

Overall, the AIADMK claimed that Tamil Nadu is witnessing a decline in both law enforcement and welfare delivery, urging immediate corrective measures to restore governance standards in the State.
