Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced significant developments at the Govt Stanley Medical College Hospital on Wednesday, including the construction of a six-story intensive care unit (ICU) block that commenced two months ago. This announcement was made during the hospital’s Environment Day function.
In addition to the ICU block, the minister revealed plans for building a new school of nursing and a hostel for girls on the hospital campus, enhancing educational and accommodation facilities for future healthcare professionals.
During his visit, Minister Subramanian also attended an exhibition organized by nursing trainees and took part in a tree-planting ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to environmental sustainability. He highlighted the success of the green Saidai project, initiated in 2017 in Saidapet, which aims to increase Tamil Nadu’s green cover. Under this project, residents can receive saplings on their birthdays if they wish, and so far, 1.13 lakh saplings have been planted.
Following the Gaja cyclone, the project expanded to areas like Pattukottai, Surappathalam, and Velankani, where additional saplings were planted to restore green cover. After Cyclone Michaung, another 5,000 saplings were planted in Saidapet.
“We aim to increase the green cover of Tamil Nadu, which currently stands at 23.7%,” said Minister Subramanian, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and improve healthcare infrastructure in the state.
