Actor and President of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay, has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished in a devastating fire incident in Mangaf city, Kuwait. In a statement posted on his official ‘X’ page on Thursday, Vijay lamented the tragic loss of life and extended his sympathies to the affected families.
The fire, which occurred on Wednesday, claimed the lives of over 40 Indians, primarily from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and other states. Approximately 50 others were injured and are currently receiving treatment in five government hospitals in Kuwait, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
“I extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. I hope those who are undergoing treatment in hospitals recover swiftly and attain full health,” Vijay wrote in his message.
The incident has brought to light the harsh realities faced by many migrant workers in the Gulf region, who often live in substandard and overcrowded housing facilities. The fire in the labour housing facility in Mangaf has sparked outrage and calls for improved living conditions and safety measures for migrant workers.
Vijay’s message resonates with the broader community, which is mourning the loss of lives and praying for the swift recovery of the injured. The tragedy underscores the urgent need for better enforcement of safety regulations and living standards in labor accommodations.
As condolences pour in from various quarters, there is a renewed call for accountability and action to prevent such incidents in the future. The Indian government, in coordination with Kuwaiti authorities, is working to provide assistance to the victims and their families.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers and the imperative to ensure their safety and well-being. As the community grieves, Vijay’s words of sympathy provide some solace, and his call for swift recovery for the injured echoes the hopes of many.
The tragic fire in Kuwait highlights the critical need for systemic changes to protect the rights and lives of migrant workers. The international community must come together to address these issues and prevent such devastating incidents from occurring again.
