Chennai: In a concerning incident, a woman sustained multiple injuries after being attacked by a buffalo in Tiruvottriyur on Monday.

The animal charged at her, dragging her for some distance by its horns before tossing her aside. This alarming event has raised serious concerns among residents about the increasing menace of stray cattle in Chennai.

The woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries. Eyewitnesses reported that the buffalo appeared agitated and uncontrollable, highlighting the dangers posed by stray cattle roaming freely in residential areas.

This incident is not an isolated one, as there has been a noticeable rise in stray cattle attacks in the city. Residents have expressed their growing frustration and fear, urging the Chennai Corporation to take immediate and decisive action to address the issue. The presence of stray cattle on the streets poses significant risks to pedestrians, motorists, and the general public.

Local resident Ramesh Kumar voiced his concerns, stating, “Stray cattle have become a serious problem in our neighborhood. This attack is a wake-up call for the authorities to act. We need stricter regulations and enforcement to ensure our safety.”

In response to the incident, there have been widespread calls for stricter penalties against cattle owners who allow their animals to roam freely. Community leaders and concerned citizens have demanded that the Chennai Corporation implement stringent measures to control the stray cattle population and prevent such dangerous encounters in the future.

City officials have acknowledged the gravity of the situation and assured the public that steps are being taken to address the issue. An official from the Chennai Corporation stated, “We are aware of the increasing incidents of stray cattle attacks and are working on a comprehensive plan to tackle this problem. We urge residents to report stray cattle immediately so that we can take swift action.”

The Chennai Corporation has also announced plans to increase patrols and inspections to identify and penalize negligent cattle owners. Additionally, efforts will be made to improve infrastructure for proper cattle management and to create awareness among residents about the importance of responsible animal ownership.

As the city grapples with this pressing issue, residents hope for prompt and effective action to ensure their safety and restore normalcy to their neighborhoods.
