In a significant move, Aavin, the Tamil Nadu state government cooperative, has announced a reduction in the prices of non-perishable milk by ₹2 per packet. This decision comes in response to the presence of excess milk stocks.

Aavin, established in 1958, is well-known for procuring and selling milk to its customers daily. Beyond milk, Aavin also produces a variety of dairy products including butter, ice cream, yoghurt, ghee, milkshake, and khoa. The cooperative, originally regulated by the Dairy Development Department, evolved into the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers Federation Ltd in 1981.

The milk sold by Aavin comes in different packets—orange, green, blue, and violet—each indicating the fat content. Additionally, Aavin offers non-refrigerated milk packets, which are especially useful during calamities such as storms and heavy rains, and for long-distance travel.

Previously, these non-refrigerated milk packets were sold at ₹30 for 450ml and ₹12 for 150ml. With the new price reduction, the 450ml packet will now be available for ₹28, and the 150ml packet for ₹10. This price adjustment is expected to benefit consumers significantly.
