In a significant operation, the Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Chennai zonal unit seized nearly 6 kg of methamphetamine, worth approximately ₹70 crore, which was intended to be smuggled to Sri Lanka by boat. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals near the Kilambakkam bus terminus.
NCB officials reported that on July 24, they intercepted Bysul Rahman from Ramanathapuram near the Kilambakkam bus terminus and recovered 5.97 kg of methamphetamine from his possession. Rahman allegedly planned to transport the drugs to his hometown, from where they were to be shipped to Sri Lanka.
During Rahman’s interrogation, he provided information that led to the arrest of two other suspects, Mansoor from Chennai and Ibrahim from Ramanathapuram, on Saturday. Further questioning of these individuals revealed the location of a godown in Red Hills, where officials seized an additional 1 kg of methamphetamine.
According to NCB officials, the methamphetamine was sourced from Moreh, a border town in Manipur, and transported to Chennai. From Chennai, it was intended to be moved to Ramanathapuram and then smuggled to Sri Lanka.
