CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan on Monday criticized TVK president and actor Vijay for his repeated attacks on ally DMK, claiming that Vijay seems to have launched his political party solely to criticize the ruling Dravidian government. Addressing reporters, Mutharasan said that Vijay’s criticism of DMK is currently the only focus of his political journey. “He has just started the party. He needs to understand more about the political culture of Tamil Nadu,” Mutharasan remarked. He also suggested that Vijay’s approach lacks substance, adding, “He is grinding the same batter repeatedly. This is a waste of time and energy.” Shifting his focus to agricultural concerns, Mutharasan expressed disappointment over the challenges faced by farmers in the Cauvery delta region. Although samba cultivation is progressing well, kuruvai cultivation was below expectations due to the delayed release of water from the Mettur Dam and a poor monsoon, he explained. Mutharasan also highlighted issues around farm loans, stating that many farmers are experiencing long waits for disbursements. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that nationalized banks disburse crop loans at the same level as cooperative societies. “Crop loans should be available across all nationalized banks to meet farmers’ needs,” he added. The CPI leader further criticized nationalized banks for their reluctance to provide jewel loans to farmers, calling on the government to intervene. Additionally, he requested that the government ensure an adequate supply of fertilizers and urged cooperative societies to monitor and prevent inflated fertilizer prices. Turning to insurance issues, Mutharasan alleged that private insurance companies have largely failed to release crop insurance claims to farmers, with less than 3 percent receiving their dues. He recalled that when the government handled crop insurance, farmers faced fewer issues and received better support. Mutharasan urged the government to address this problem to ensure timely and fair support for farmers.
