In a significant move to enhance security and surveillance, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated modern police booths for the Greater Chennai City Police on Monday. These booths, designed to facilitate round-the-clock patrolling in densely populated areas, were launched in the presence of Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) P. Sekar Babu and Chennai Central MP Dayanidhi Maran.As part of the initiative, the Deputy Chief Minister inspected a modern police booth at Border Thottam, located off Anna Salai. He also flagged off special two-wheelers for beat patrolling in the Chepauk area, aiming to improve police presence and response time in key locations.
Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun elaborated on the initiative, highlighting that the east zone, which includes Triplicane, Mylapore, and Kilpauk police districts, has been equipped with 24 special patrolling two-wheelers. “Our personnel will be on the move round the clock in their respective beats using these vehicles. Two police personnel will work in rotation across three shifts to ensure continuous patrolling,” he stated.
Additionally, modern police booths have been established at 10 locations, with 14 more to be set up in the coming days. These booths are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including air conditioning and live-streamed CCTV footage from the respective areas. This advanced monitoring system enables police personnel to closely observe movements and respond swiftly to incidents.
The booths also feature digital display boards to create public awareness on safety and security measures. “With these new facilities, our personnel can keep a constant watch on real-time activities in the area, ensuring better law enforcement and community safety,” Commissioner Arun added.
