Actor-politician Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan is officially set for a grand Pongal release on January 9, 2026. The announcement was made by the makers on Monday, confirming that the political thriller will hit the screens ahead of the festival.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is expected to be Vijay’s last film before he fully transitions into politics. The actor launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in 2024 and has announced his plans to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
This film marks Vijay’s 15th Pongal release, following successful festival hits such as Thirupaachi (2005), Pokkiri (2007), Nanban (2012), Jilla (2014), Master (2021), and Varisu (2023).
Jana Nayagan boasts a star-studded cast, including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, and Narain, alongside Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, and Teejay Arunasalam. This marks the first collaboration of Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Mamitha, and Narain with Vijay, while the film reunites him with Prakash Raj (Varisu), Pooja Hegde (Beast), and Gautham Vasudev Menon (Leo).
The film went on floors in October 2024 and has generated significant buzz as it is expected to blend intense political themes with commercial entertainment, making it one of the biggest releases of 2026.
